Today, students checked their answers to the primary source documents A and B.  These documents describe the factors for the fall of Rome.  Next, students practiced performing a Socratic seminar.  The topic used for the mock seminar was, What are the big issues affecting the world today?  At the end of class, students completed primary source document C related to the migration of barbarian tribes into the Roman Empire.

Today, students created a T-chart comparing the Rise to the Fall of Rome.  This included a a video about reasons for the fall. Finally, students analyzed two primary source documents. These documents are due tomorrow.

Today, students checked their assignment on the Fall of Rome. Next, students completed the PowerPoint on Roman society. Students continue to collect information to understand the fall of Rome.

Pax Romana and The Fall of Rome

I can examine the factors and events that played a role in Rome's transition from Republic to an Empire.

Today, students analyzed their timelines from Friday.  Students discussed the Pax Romana, 200 years of Roman Peace.  It was the height of Roman power.  There was war/riots and the empire was expanding.  Finally, students worked on an article related to the Fall of Rome.  

Rise and Decline of the Roman Republic Timeline

Today, students worked individually to create a timeline for Romes transition from a Republic to Empire.  Students will analyze the timeline on Monday.  Students also checked their exit slips from Thursday.  Next week, students will learn about the fall of the Rome Empire.  

Finish Maps of Rome and Exit Slip

Today, students completed their maps on Ancient Rome.  The last ten minutes of class students used their map resources to complete an exit slip.  The exit slip questions are home.

1. Southern most land area in the Empire =

3. The city of Rome is located on what river?

4. To get from Rome to Spain over land what two mountain ranges would need to be crossed

5. List two problems of governing and controlling a large Roman Empire.

Today, students studied a map to compare the Republic and the Empire.  Students identified bodies of water, rivers, cities and important regions of Rome. This map will be due on Thursday at the end of class.
