Requirements
- 5 complete facts, lists will only count has one fact
- Use the RACE Strategy, Restate, Answer, Cite Evidence, and Explain the evidence
- Everyone will do #1, then you can choose two of the other four essays
- Capitalization and punctuation will be graded
1. Explain Manoralism. What is it?s purpose? Who ran the Manor? Who did the most hard labor? What things are part of the manor? Why are they in a manor?
2. Describe the role of religion in the Middle Ages.
3. Compare the lives of Medieval people to people today
4. How did life change in Western Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire?
5. What was the Black Death and what were its effects on people physically and socially? How was it spread and how did the hygiene practices of the time help it spread?

Medieval Activities Day
The Medieval Activities Day was a great success. Students were able to listen to a speaker from the Raptor Center and view two different birds of pray, learn about textiles in the Middle Ages and turn wool into yarn, play a Black Death simulation game, Reader's Theatre, build and test catapults and creating a coat of arms for themselves.

Today, students turned in the manor projects for grading. This assignment will be worth 16 points. We discussed plans for the medieval activities day tomorrow and went over answers to a worksheet. It was a short day so we had to go over information quickly.

Tuesday - students were given time to finish their manor project due on Thursday. This assignment will be worth 16 pts.
Wednesday - students will watch and take notes over a video about the Black Plague. The notes will help prepare them for the essay test.

Religion during the Middle Ages and Manor Project
Review:
Under Feudalism, A king provides a noble or lord with land known as a fief. In return, the lord provides soldiers to fight in the kings army.
Today, students worked with their consultants on creating a map of a manor. Students received a handout of the essay questions for the test on Monday, March 2nd. Students have a week to prepare and create notes to use in their study packet. Further information will be coming in an e-mail today.

Manor Project
Review:
Life after the fall of the Roman Empire -
In the later Middle Ages, people began to refer to the period following the Roman collapse as the Dark Ages. The early Middle Ages were “dark” compared to Rome’s “light.” Following the fall, most Europeans lived life as before without realizing the empire ceased to exist. However, the transition to the Middle Ages had long been underway. Major migrations collapsed the Roman frontier, economy, and defenses. As the empire disintegrated, people placed themselves under the protection of powerful strongmen creating the feudal system. At the same time, urban areas depopulated, skilled workers became peasant farmers, and learning centers forgot how to learn. As a result, feudalism formed, the cities collapsed, and classical learning lost resulting in a dark age.
Today, students started working on their medieval manor projects. Below is the rubric and an example for the manor project. Students will be sketching the buildings, people and land that make up a manor. It will be due next Thursday. Monday students will receive a copy of the essay test questions.

Today, we started class with an important question of the day. It is similar to an essay question that will be on their upcoming test. We discussed the Medieval Activities day planned for Friday, Feb. 27. I will have more information on tomorrow's post.
